The 20th of March was an important day for Sarah-Jayne age 16 and Kyron Caddick age 7 when they completed a 5 hour Black belt Grading conducted under the rules of the British National Martial Arts Association ending with them both receiving an “A” Grade.  They both train under the Welsh Academy of Martial Arts/YMCA Karate and Kickboxing Club.

Sarah-Jayne Clements age 16 lives in Barry and attends Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School.  Sarah-Jayne is an outstanding martial artist who over the years of training has excelled in martial arts.  She is an all rounder in sport and has also proven to be a good athlete.  Her sister Jade also trains in martial arts and is due to take her black belt within the next 6 months.

Kyron Caddick age 7 years lives in Rhoose and attends Rhws Primary School. Kyron has been training in Karate and Kickboxing from the age of 3 and a half years  and is also an outstanding martial artist who is following in his Uncles footsteps Rhydian Tolcher-James 3rd Degree Black Belt and 1st Degree Black Belts in numerous other styles, his Mum Paula who is  a 1st Degree Black Belt his cousins who now live in Cambridge Nicola Taylor (Mazey),  and Paul Taylor , and his grandmother Lynne Tolcher-James  who are all Black Belts.  Kyron is also an all rounder when it comes to sport, he also has good football skills and has proven to be a  good athlete.

Kyron and Sarah-Jayne among several other students, have both qualified to represent Wales in the forthcoming World Kickboxing Championships and Olympic Games.  They both represent TEAM WALES who travel far and wide to compete for their country.

Congratulations to them both on an outstanding grading result which impressed the examiners.  Well Done both!

The month of June was a very important date for the students of the Welsh Academy of Martial Arts where all five graded for their 1st Degree Black Belts.

Christopher Brown who has been training from the age of 4 years and who is now aged 13 and attends St. Richard Gwyn High School, Barry.

James Sheekey aged 10 has been training from the young age of 6 years. James attends Gladstone Road Primary School. Barry

Front Row:  Hannah Harvey age 9 has been training from the young age of 4 years, and attends High Street School. Barry.

Christopher Short age 12 has been training from the age of 8 years who lives in Sully and attends St. Cyres School, Penarth

All five students graded with an A and A- Grade.   It was a long 5 hour grading seeing all five students ending with excellent grades.

These students are all exceptional martial artists, four of which have competed internationally.

Christopher Brown qualified to compete in the World Kickboxing Championships which were held in Vienna, and has taken part in international tournaments from the age of 7 years.

James and Jordan who are brothers, Christopher Short and again Christopher Brown, were  competitors in the recent Irish Open.  All four among others excelled in the tournament.  We are now hoping to raise funds for those who have qualified to represent Wales in the forthcoming World Championships to be held in Canada in November this year.

Christopher Brown and Jordan and James Sheekey, Christopher Short and Hannah Harvey are all member of Team Wales who travel far and wide to compete for their country.

They are a credit to our community, parents and instructors.  We need more children like these who dedicate their lives to sport and who are now able to pass on their ability others.
